JORGE LUIS GUTIERREZ
An accomplished visual arts manager and museum curator with domestic and global experience. An architect, educated, and specialized in the museum and visual arts administration, with a master of art and doctoral studies at New York University and Columbia University. He holds an extensive track record in museum leadership, community outreach, and development with interdisciplinary museum practices in America and abroad.
Broad experience in art collections management, development, and appraisals. Advising and establishing partnerships and global alliances with institutions globally. Founder-director of the Miami Dade College Art Gallery System and the Freedom Tower Museum [Now MOAD-MDC] Miami, FL. Invited external curator for the Museum of Contemporary Art Miami. Founder-Director of the Museum of Visual Arts – [Museo de Artes Visuales Alejandro Otero] Caracas, Venezuela. Former director of Cultural Affairs of the National Library of Venezuela. Former advisor on museum management and collection development in the Americas of the Organization of American States.
As a curator, he has contributed to building up an open, multifaceted view of the Americas’ art. Through exhibitions of artistic significance, including relevant projects in the Museum of Contemporary Art – Miami. The Global Caribbean Project – Haitian Cultural Alliance/Art Basel Miami. The Delaware Contemporary. Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey. The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Queens Museum of Art, NY, among others.
